Lesson Plans
1-Day Visit Preparation
This one-day multidisciplinary lesson is designed for teachers to prepare students in grades 5-10 prior to visiting the exhibition in one, fifty-minute class session. Can be adapted to an instructional block. It has teacher resources, a slide show for use during instruction, and a Clipboard Worksheet for printing for each student to observe and reflect while visiting the exhibition.
3-Day Unit: Prep, Visit, Debrief
This link will take you to a series of lesson plans designed so that the first day of instruction is preparation for a visit to the exhibition, the second day is the visit, and the third day is in response to the visit. Adaptable for both fifty-minute and block classes. Offered for different grade levels and content areas, though all are multidisciplinary, inquiry-based, and involve disciplinary literacy.
Extension Lessons
These lessons offer deeper dives into key questions and themes raised by the exhibition visit (and they can stand alone, too), addressing issues such as antisemitism, life in hiding, and conspiracy theories. New lessons will be added regularly, so please check back. Every lesson is adaptable to class length, multidisciplinary, inquiry-based, and involves disciplinary literacy.
Online Teacher Preparation Sessions
To support teachers and help them prepare for getting the most out of a class visit to Anne Frank the Exhibition, the Anne Frank Center at the University of South Carolina is providing free, optional online sessions that are 50 minutes in length. The Anne Frank Center (website) is the Official Partner of the Anne Frank House for the United States and Canada.
The sessions will be live, held over Zoom and hosted by an educator from the Anne Frank Center. During the session teachers will be introduced to the exhibition and instructional resources and opportunities for getting the most out of it, have a chance to ask questions, and connect with other educators who are taking their students to the exhibition.
